Is Mumble's dictation free?

Yes. Mumble is in open beta and dictation is free to use during the beta period.

Does Mumble dictation work offline?

Yes, when Local Mode is enabled. In Local Mode, speech recognition and text output run entirely on your Mac, so dictation works with no internet connection. In Cloud Mode, an internet connection is required.

Which apps does Mumble dictation work in?

Mumble’s dictation works system-wide across macOS. You can dictate into your email client, Slack, Notion, Google Docs, browsers, code editors, and any other Mac app where you can type.

Can I change how my dictated text is formatted?

Yes. While you hold the dictation shortcut, a panel lets you pick an output format: clean text, bullet points, a custom prompt, or open a link. Custom prompts can reshape your text into a formal email, a short message, a translation, or a summary.

Is Mumble dictation private?

It can be fully private. In Local Mode, your audio is processed entirely on your Mac and never sent anywhere. If keeping voice data on your own machine matters to you, use Local Mode.
