Full AI on 16 GB Macs, plus AI Action shortcuts

Mumble Dictation 0.1.44 brings on-device AI to Macs with 16 GB of memory, puts every AI Action on a number key, and adds British and Australian English.

New

  • New: On-device AI for 16 GB Macs. A new lighter language model brings cleanup and AI Actions to Macs with 16 GB of memory (this used to need 24 GB). Mumble picks the right model for your Mac, and you can switch anytime in Settings.
  • New: Number keys for AI Actions. While you're dictating, tap 1 through 9 to pick the AI Action to apply. Cleanup is always 1, and the rest follow the order in your AI Actions panel.
  • New: British and Australian English. Choose English (UK) or English (Australia) as your dictation language, and your text comes out with the right spelling: colour, organise, centre.

Improvements and fixes

  • The waveform in the recording pill now moves with your actual voice instead of playing a fixed loop.
  • On very short recordings, words from your dictionary could sneak into the output. Fixed.
  • Recordings stuck on processing now recover on their own.

Reliability tune-up and AI Action previews

Mumble Dictation 0.1.39 is a stability release: the dictation engine got a deep reliability pass, and AI Actions now show you what they do before you run them.

Dictation fixes

  • Quick taps, long holds, and fast cancels all land the way you meant them, and sessions never start on their own.
  • Spoke but nothing came back? Mumble now says so and offers a retry.
  • Words from your dictionary are picked up more reliably.

AI Actions

  • Every AI Action now opens with a real before-and-after example. Try more, or paste your own text before turning it on.

Settings

  • Dictation and Hands-free now have separate shortcut rows: a double-tap of your key starts Hands-free.

Translate, Ask AI, and faster cleanup

Mumble Dictation 0.1.27 adds two new voice skills, Translate and Ask, makes AI cleanup faster, and gives History a full redesign.

New AI Actions

  • New: Translate. Speak in one language and the text lands in another. Pick a default target from over 40 languages and trigger it like any other skill.
  • New: Ask. Dictate a question and send it straight to ChatGPT, Claude, or Grok.

Faster and more accurate

  • AI cleanup is quicker. The model now warms up ahead of time, so your first dictation after launch no longer waits, and every rewrite after that is a little faster too.
  • Words you add to your dictionary, and words Mumble learns from you, are recognized more reliably.

A redesigned History

  • Each entry now shows what you said, what landed, and which app it went to. GIFs, links, and Ask questions appear just as they were delivered.
  • Edited a dictation after inserting it? Open the comparison to see exactly what changed, word by word.

Polish and fixes

  • The recording waveform now moves only when you speak.
  • A refreshed app icon.
  • Fixed "already recording" errors after a quick cancel.

Introducing Mumble Dictation

Mumble Dictation runs fully on your Mac and turns your voice into clean, ready-to-use text in any Mac app.

100% privacy by default

  • A voice model transcribes what you say, and a language model refines and reshapes it. Both run on-device, so nothing you say leaves your Mac.
  • Optionally connect your own model. Refining then runs on that provider's servers instead of on your Mac.

Dictate anywhere

  • Hold one shortcut and dictate. Your words appear as text right at the cursor, in any app where you can type.
  • Filler words like "um" and "like" disappear, punctuation gets fixed, and longer thoughts break into clean paragraphs and lists, so what lands is ready to use.
  • Works in over 40 languages, including mixing them in one sentence, with automatic detection.

Reshape with Transforms

  • Keep holding the shortcut and press a key to reshape the same words: tighten them, turn them into a bullet list, or drop in a matching emoji.
  • Save your own prompt, like "rewrite this as a professional email" or "translate into Spanish," and apply it with a keypress.

Your words, spelled right

  • Add names, acronyms, and product terms to your dictionary so Mumble gets them right every time.
