Privacy Policy: Mumble Dictation

Last Updated: July 10, 2026

This Privacy Policy applies to Mumble Dictation (“Mumble Dictation” or the “App”), the Mumble Dictation application for macOS. Mumble Dictation is provided by Narya.ai Inc. (“we” or “us”), a Delaware corporation building productivity software.

Mumble Dictation runs on your Mac and requires a Mumble account to start a trial, purchase, or restore a purchase. When you use its on-device mode, your speech and the resulting text are processed on your Mac and are not sent to us. Separately, when you are online, the App connects to our servers to sign you in and validate your license. It does not need a constant connection to work. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

This Privacy Policy applies globally, with jurisdiction-specific provisions in the Supplemental Terms: Jurisdiction-Specific section. It covers only the Mumble Dictation macOS application. Our other products (such as Mumble AI, or Mumble Note for iOS) are covered by their own privacy policies.

1. What Information We Collect

1.1 Information you provide

Account information. A Mumble account is required to start a trial, purchase, or restore a purchase. You sign in with Google, and we receive basic profile information from Google, such as your name and email address. Your account is linked to your device and to your license.

Purchase and license information. When you purchase a Pro license, payment is processed by our payment provider (Stripe); we receive a transaction identifier and limited billing details such as country, but we do not receive or store your full card number. We associate your license with your account and your device.

Support and communications. When you contact us for support or feedback, we collect your email address and the contents of your message, which may include logs, screenshots, or diagnostic details you choose to send.

1.2 Information processed on your Mac (not collected by us)

When you use Mumble Dictation in on-device mode, your audio and the resulting text are captured, transcribed, and refined locally on your Mac. This content is not transmitted to us and we do not receive, store, or have access to it. You control where it is saved and when it is deleted.

1.3 Information collected automatically

Diagnostic and usage information. We collect app version, macOS version, device model, a device identifier, your IP address, language and region settings, feature usage events, and error diagnostics, to operate and improve the App. This data is processed through Mixpanel and through our own logging and observability infrastructure.

Trial usage. Your free-trial usage (the dictation minutes you have used) is tracked against your account so we can enforce the trial limit.

1.4 Cookies

This policy covers the Mumble Dictation application only. Our website has its own use of cookies and analytics, described where applicable on the site.

2. How Your Information Is Processed for AI Features

Mumble Dictation lets you choose how transcription and text refinement are performed.

On-device model (“Mumble on-device”). Processing happens entirely on your Mac. Your audio and text are not sent to us or to any third party.

Bring your own key (BYOK). If you configure your own third-party AI provider key (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, or a custom endpoint), the audio or text needed for that feature is sent directly to the provider you selected, under that provider's privacy terms, not ours. We do not receive that content. Your provider API key is stored in a file on your Mac and is not transmitted to us.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide the product: deliver and validate your license, enforce trial limits, operate the App.
  • Support: respond to your requests and troubleshoot issues.
  • Improve the product: understand feature usage and diagnose errors.
  • Transactional communications: send license, receipt, and service notices related to your purchase.
  • Optional marketing: send product updates or newsletters where you have opted in, with an unsubscribe link in every message.
  • Legal and security: comply with legal obligations, prevent fraud and abuse, and protect our rights and users.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.

4. How We Share Your Information

We share personal information only with service providers that help us run Mumble Dictation, and only as needed:

  • Stripe: payment processing.
  • Mixpanel: product analytics.
  • Google: sign-in and authentication. We receive basic profile information from Google when you sign in; we do not share your dictation content with Google.
  • Loops: email delivery (license, receipts, and communications you have opted into).

We also operate our own logging and observability infrastructure to diagnose errors and keep the service secure. This runs on servers we control and is not a third-party service.

We may also share information when required by law, to enforce our Terms, to protect our rights and users, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (in which case we will require the recipient to honor this Privacy Policy).

When you use BYOK, the AI provider you choose receives the content you send through that feature. That provider is not our service provider; it acts under its own terms with you.

5. How We Store and Protect Your Information

The information we collect (such as your account details, license, and purchase records) is stored on servers located in the United States. We use encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and data minimization.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. How Long We Keep Your Information

  • Content processed on your Mac (on-device mode): we never receive it, so we do not retain it. You control its deletion.
  • Account information: retained while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize it, except records we must keep for legal, tax, or accounting purposes.
  • Purchase and license records (email, license key, transaction identifier): retained while your license is valid, and for up to 7 years after your last transaction to meet tax and accounting obligations.
  • Support correspondence: up to 24 months after your request is resolved.
  • Diagnostic and usage data: retained in identifiable form for up to 14 months, then aggregated or anonymized.

After these periods we delete or anonymize the information, unless a longer period is required by law.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Subject to your location and applicable law, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information; to withdraw consent; to unsubscribe from marketing; and to object to or limit certain processing.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at feedback@heymumble.com. We will verify your request and respond within the period required by applicable law.

8. Children

Mumble Dictation is not directed to, and is not intended for, anyone under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under that age. If you believe we have collected information from someone under 16, contact us at feedback@heymumble.com and we will delete it.

9. International Transfers

We are based in the United States, and the limited information we collect is processed there. If you use Mumble Dictation from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses (or equivalent mechanisms for the UK).

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version and change the “Last Updated” date above. For significant changes, we will provide additional notice.

11. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions.
